DIY Star Wars display case

My DIY vintage Star Wars display case was built by using Ikea Ribba 16″ x 20″ picture frames as the front glass. This was a very economical way to build the frame as the Ribba was under $15.00 CAD. Flipping it sideways gave me enough room to 30 vintage figures in each display case.

Ribba Frame
3″ x 1″ boards cut to length for sides and top
Shelf holes drilled for shelf pins.
Note: set drill depth (I taped the bit) to not go 100% through the wood.
5mm shelf pin test in place
For the shelves I used a hard wood to prevent sagging. While keeping the shelves as things possible.
I glued the wood edges and nailed into place. Then added a thin back board.
Note: check the squareness to ensure it matches the frame.
I painted and added hinges to the top
I chose a yellow for the inside as a tribute to the original card backs. I brightened it to match the room and lighting conditions.
Building the display case

The finished piece.

Vintage Kenner 3 3/4" Star Wars Display Case

Each shelf has 5 inches head space. The top shelf being 5.125″ high which accommodates IG-88 quite well. The 3″ wood (in actuality closer to 2.5″ as wood is not the width it has on the description) fits all figures well. If you have a table saw you could probably rip the wood an other 3/4″ for a lower profile. This case still have room for approx 15 more figures. Build 3 cases and have all your vintage Star Wars figures displayed as the art they are.

Note: This type of display case would also work with other collectible items such as vintage 3 3/4″ Gi Joe figures. These frames come in a variety of sizes to accommodate other projects.
